Kathmandu Academy of Tourism and Hospitality (KATH) has been established in March 2002 to fulfill the urgent need of trained human resource to the requirement of the rapidly emerging key sector of national economy “Tourism”. As its overall goal, the academy fully dedicates to maintaining excellence of knowledge and skills required to efficiently operate and manage both the private and public sectors of tourism. It possesses a pool of well-qualified and committed faculty members.KATH is the only educational institution in the country Nepal to offer postgraduate and graduate level courses in tourism management. The academy also conducts short duration tailor made training programs for both private & public sectors of tourism. Kathmandu Academy of Tourism and Hospitality has been established with a guiding maxim of “ Tourism for Prosperity and Peace”.

It has successfully conducted short term duration training courses in tourism and hospitality for Government of Nepal Department of Immigration, Tourism for Rural poverty Alleviation Programme (TRPAP), Austrian INGO Eco-Himal, National Examination Board, Nepal and Travel Trade Operators of Eastern, Western, Mid and Far-Western Regions of Nepal. 

Moreover, the college received WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarship for BTTS students and Gold Medal from Pasang Lhamu Mounteering Foundation for BTTS graduates for excellence in tourism studies. 

In addition, it successfully conducted UN/MEDEP (Tourism based Micro Enterprise Development project) training in Baglung in August 2009 and in Surkhet in September 2009.   

Objectives: 

  1. To impart quality education and training to perform at basic, supervisory and management levels of travel and tourism operation and management through courses at Bachelor, Master and other higher levels.
  2. To cater to the need of qualified and well versed manpower to serve for the private and public sectors of tourism. 
  3. To build career prospects of new generation at reasonable cost to serve in the rapidly emerging travel and tourism sector both nationally and internationally.
  4. To operate as the resource center for travel and tourism education training and research in the country.

SALIENT FEATURES

  1. Classrooms – spacious and bright.
  2. Computer laboratory – Computer with Multimedia and internet are installed to facilitate all the students to undergo their study as per the curriculum
  3. Library – Well stocked library with course books, references national and international magazines and journals to meet the full requirements of the students and other scholar looking forward to enriching their learning and undergoing higher study in travel and tourism.
  4. Cafeteria – With facilities for meals and light refreshment to the students and staff at reasonable cost.
  5. Extra Curricular Activities: The academy motivates and facilitates its students to excel in extra curricular activities. Sports, publication of in house Magazine, Newsletter, Debates,  Cultural program and organizing events etc. to be undertaken by the students.
  6. Teaching Methodology: Classroom lectures and tutorials using audio visual aids such as-videos, LCD overhead projectors etc. Case studies with assignment, industrial orientation, internship, field trips/excursions to establishments/locations as per the curricular requirement and talk programs, workshops and seminars are arranged/conducted at regular intervals. 
  7. Industry Partnership: KATH is continuously strengthening its relationship with the tourism industry. Tourism entrepreneurs, industry leaders and key tourism public sector personnel are invited as guest faculty to interact with the students on regular basis. KATH is a member of national travel trade bodies like Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN), Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), Nepal Association of Rafting Agents (NARA), etc.  
  8. Short Term Courses: KATH also organizes short-term courses on demand/requirement of the private and public sectors of tourism in area such as: Basics of Tourism Management, Travel and Tour Operations, Airlines Ticketing, Customer Care, Tourism Marketing, Tourism Development Planning, Tourism Measurement, Sustainable Tourism, Hotel and Travel Trade Accounts Keeping and Financial Management.
