Ten-plus-two Education: Unanimous Decision of SEE Graduates

Tentatively, a two-third majority of SEE appeared students unanimously get enrolled in plus-two-course in Nepal. As many as 485,586 students, including 452,781 under regular, 24,071 under exempted, and 8,734 under technical categories appeared in the Secondary Education Examinations (SEE) held from 10th- 21st of Chaitra 2075. The National Examinations Board (NEB) had prepared distinctive question sets for each province for SEE appearing students. Despite a few cases of forgery and leakage of questions in province-02, the SEE examinations-2075 concluded in a decent way.

As well as pursuing different short-term courses such as singing, dancing, basic computer courses, graphic designing, most SEE appeared students are taking a bridge course which allows them to explore multiple gateways to figure out their right faculty and subjects in ten-plus-two level.

However, the selection of the right college, faculty, and specialized subject has never been easy due to many reasons. Most students seem to be ushered to dilemmatic limbo while taking up plus two studies because of various course choices available in front of them. In such a case, having a wealth of choices can be dangerous if those college seekers do not heed righteous suggestions from good counselors, parents, and peers. Some SEE graduates are led by their own intuition, and some are forced by their parents to take up a challenging course for the benefits of such parents. In fact, students should be sagacious enough to measure their own strengths before pursuing any faculty and look into the course that will give them a depth of knowledge in their sought subject choices. There are myriads colleges in Kathmandu and beyond the capital which have made positive impacts on collegians and are academically prodigious in imparting excellent education that has become the fountainhead of academic attainments of most students. The colleges situated on the outskirts of every populous place are more successful than the centrally located with state-of-the-art infrastructures.

Previously known as 10+2 or +2 course, which is now termed as Grade XI and XII, is a high school course. Now, the education system in Nepal has been categorized into three levels: Basic Education (Grade One to Eight), Secondary Education (Grade Nine to Twelve), and Higher Education (Bachelor to post-graduate).

After introducing plus two courses as secondary education, a number of queries have been raised for the formation of the courses and curricula. But National Examinations Board (NEB) has not been able to prepare and introduce its final draft of curricula to the public.

According to the NEB, they are going to use the same curricula and syllabi in grades eleven and twelve which every high school has been using. These courses are of two years that facilitate students to experience a transition from school to university education which builds a stronger level of skill and maturity that they lack in school years for ten years.

Faculty and course selection after leaving school is a difficult task. It decides on each career pursuer’s path and future. The process of course selections is directly related to one’s successes and failures in the future. In addition, the selection of wrong courses may create demoralization or even worse situation for the students. And the choice of right college, faculty, and subjects is integrated with one’s future endeavors. This process may sound facile, but it should involve a deluge of insights, discussions, and research.  So, every college hopeful needs to figure out the different types of subjects, and in most cases, should think further about career choices. One should never assume that s/he knows about a subject at a higher level because they have practiced it before. This could be true if students are passionate about their subject choices, they will become diligent to achieve their goals. So, it is advised everyone should acquire ample information before choosing the faculty or courses.

More than two hundred NEB associate colleges in Kathmandu offer an array of courses vis-à-vis Science, Management, and Humanities which have ensured a wealth of course choices for college enrollees. Choosing any subject areas under stressful environments will eventually impede the pathway to a promising career. Some subject areas are really tough to decide on, carry on, and more than that to obtain rewarding marks. This could be true assiduous students with rigorous adherence to study will be able to overcome all kinds of drawbacks in the competitive curriculum courses. Before embarking on any faculty of studies, the college seekers should be wise enough to discern the course ramifications that will lead them to the height of their employability on completing such courses.

The National Examinations Board has endorsed four multi-disciplinary aspects of learning in Ten Plus Two program: Science, Management, Humanities, and Education, which are being offered with a variety of subject choices. Unlike other courses like CBSE, IB, A-Level, Nursing, and Technical Programs, 10+2 program of NEB is very reasonable and affordable to the students. Upon completing one of these programs most graduates have been successful in showing outstanding performance in their higher courses in Medical, Engineering, Nursing, Social Sciences, CA, and BBA, which limns that whatever course one takes up, it depends on his/her diligence and ardor to help in succeeding in their career. Acknowledging one’s future aim, it will be a wise decision to choose the subject of his/her interest.
