Course Description

Bachelor in Public Health (BPH) is a four year program of Pokhara University. The course aims to prepare a student with all necessary scientific knowledge, technical competencies and human understanding to work in various capacities from community level to the central level health care programs.

Currently six Public Health Colleges offers BPH Program in Nepal with affiliation from Pokhara University.

Provision of equitable access to health care for attainment of an acceptable level of health and better quality of life of the people by creating more resources is the dominant concern for Nepal today. In many parts of the world scientists are investing themselves in introducing public health interventions that can deal with the lifestyle. However, Nepal is facing four aid burdens of diseases (communicable, life-style related, poverty, and conflict). In order to cope with this complex situation, development of public health graduates with necessary skills has become inevitable.

Admission Guideline

Eligibility

Must have passed Proficiency Certificate Level or 10+2 Science group and must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from a recognized educational institution with a minimum of 50% or a GPA of 2.4, 

OR,

Must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in A-Level and must have passed with an overall score of at least 50% marks or a GPA of 2.4, 

OR,

Must have passed Certificate of Health Science Proficiency Certificate/ Diploma (General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurved, Radiography, Physiotherapy) with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and must have obtained an equivalence and be registered with the concerned council.

Job Prospects

There is growing concern for improvement of health status from all stakeholders within Nepal or in the foreign countries. Provision of equitable access to health care for attainment of an acceptable level of health and better quality of life of the people by creating more equitable distribution of resources is the dominant concern of Nepal today. In many parts of the world scientists are investing themselves in introducing public health interventions that can deal with the lifestyle. However, Nepal is facing three fold burdens of diseases (communicable, lifestyle related and poverty). In order to cope with this complex situation, development of public health graduates has become inescapable. Very few number of public health workers are working within Nepal or in the other countries. In general, a BPH graduates can choose following area to build the career.
